Manuel Flores Martinez is a 56 year-old respected day labor worker leader in Tucson. Manuel was detained, along with his wife Kenia Herrera Flores, on Labor Day weekend while they were on their way to the supermarket. A police officer pulled them over and called Border Patrol on them. His wife signed a voluntary departure, while Manuel is seeking to receive a bond in the next week that may be between $1,500 to $6,ooo.
Manuel has dedicated himself to helping others to organize against workplace abuses, wage theft, and racial profiling. He has made a great impact in the Tucson community through his leadership at the Southside Worker Center—a Tucson day labor program that seeks to develop worker leadership and community power.
